The Kura is a music bar inspired by the traditional Japanese kura—a storehouse once used to protect a family’s most valuable possessions.
The team behind The Kura brings 10 years of DJ experience in New York, along with extensive experience producing and running events and parties in Japan and internationally.
Drawing on that background, we are creating a space where Japanese aesthetics meet international music culture, combining the character of Japan with the energy and sensibility of New York.
The Kura grew out of Asakusa R&B Night, a community event that has been running for more than two years. Through the connections and friendships formed at those events, we began to imagine a permanent place where people could gather more regularly. That idea became the starting point for The Kura.
We chose Kinshicho because it has the warmth and character of Tokyo’s traditional shitamachi neighborhoods while also welcoming a growing number of international visitors. It is a place where local life and global culture naturally come together.
From Kinshicho, The Kura aims to create and share a new music culture—a place where local residents and visitors from around the world can connect naturally through music. We hope it becomes a home for new friendships, ideas, culture, and creative energy.
